What to do next

  1. Find your hurricane or named-storm deductible and dwelling limit (Coverage A) on your policy’s declarations page.
  2. Set aside savings for the deductible in dollars before storm season.
  3. Once you have an adjuster’s estimate after a storm, use the recoverable depreciation calculatorto see your payments.

How this calculator works

  1. Percentage deductible = dwelling limit × percentage, rounded to the nearest cent.
  2. Flat deductible = the dollar amount you enter.
  3. Estimated dwelling payout = damage (up to the dwelling limit) − hurricane deductible, never below $0.
  4. Extra out of pocket = hurricane deductible − regular deductible, never below $0.
  5. The comparison table repeats the deductible and payout at 1%, 2%, 5% and 10% of the same dwelling limit.
Worked example: $350,000 dwelling limit, 2% hurricane deductible, $20,000 of damage, $1,000 regular deductible
Dwelling limit (Coverage A)$350,000.00
Hurricane deductible (2%)$7,000.00
Estimated damage$20,000.00
Estimated dwelling payout$13,000.00
Regular deductible$1,000.00
Extra out of pocket vs. regular deductible$6,000.00
